Black silicon carbide is produced at high temperatures in an electric resistance type furnace using quartz sand and petroleum coke as its main raw materials. Its hardness is between fused alumina and synthetic diamond, and its mechanical intensity is higher than fused alumina. It is brittle and sharp, with electrical and heat conductivity to some degree.
The abrasives made from black silicon carbide are suitable for working on cast iron, non-ferrous metal, rock, leather, rubber, and more. It is also widely used as a refractory material and metallurgical additive.
Applications
1. Metallurgical deoxidizer
2. High-temperature resistant materials
3. Abrasives, including grinding wheels, whetstones, grinding heads, sand tiles, and more
Advantages
1. Corrosion resistance, high strength, and high hardness
2. Good wear-resisting performance and resistance to shock
3. Cost-effective substitute for Ferrosilicon
4. Multi-functional
5. Lower cost than Ferrosilicon and carbon
